DRESS AND DECORUM

• Acolytes need to wear DARK low-heeled shoes, preferably with non-skid soles.  In hot months, dressy, dark colored sandals are allowed - NO rubber flip-flops and NO sneakers.

• EAT before coming to church, and dress in cool non-bulky clothing.  It gets very warm around the altar, and acolytes may feel "whoozy" if they do not eat breakfast.

• Hair needs to be clean and neat.

• NO GUM or CELL PHONES allowed while serving.

• Acolytes need to be in the vesting room AT LEAST 15 minutes prior to the start of the service.  At big services (i.e. Christmas) they may be asked to be there earlier.  If they arrive too late to receive instructions for the day, they may be replaced.

• Needless to say, acolytes are expected to behave and sit still during church.  They may not be excused during the service for any reason other than illness.  The congregation notices a lot!  Acolytes set an example for all other children.

• If there are questions or problems, acolytes are strongly encourage to call one of their leaders at any time.  

SCHEDULING

• A "feeler" sheet is sent to each acolyte about three weeks prior to the end of the present schedule.  Dates and times of future services (covering a 3 month period) are given.  Each acolyte may put an "X" on the dates he/she CANNOT serve.

• Post card and email reminders are sent as a courtesy.  It is up to each acolyte to follow the schedule.

• Once the schedule is mailed, it is the ACOLYTE'S RESPONSIBILITY to call the leader if they are unable to serve on their scheduled date.  She has the master list and is best able to find a sub according to what is needed for that service.   

• Acolytes are expected are expected to attend church MOST of the time, whether they are serving or not.  If they are absent from church for long periods of time or fail to show when scheduled to serve, they may not be scheduled during the next round.
