Before
the Service and Procession
During
Service
Acolyting at the early (7:30) is mandatory when an acolyte reaches
driving age. Each acolyte is usually assigned just once in a
three month period. Volunteering for an early service is
encouraged in all acolytes in Jr. High or older.
Before
the Service--- and the Procession
1) Arrive by 7:15. It is helpful to eat something or
have a glass of juice before the service.
2) Vest in WHITE ALB and wear your cross.
3) Enter church and get a BULLETIN to have by your seat, (on
the FIRST SERVER side) - then light the ALTAR CANDLES only.
4) You will NOT BE USING the cross or flag.
5) You will WALK IN FIRST, then layreader, and priest
(entering the church the short way BEHIND the font, bowing at the
altar and taking your place)

During
the Service-
1) After the SECOND LESSON , take the GOSPEL BOOK to the
priest at the top of the steps. Stay there while she reads, and
then return the book to the altar and sit for the sermon.
2) At OFFERING, cross in front of the altar (to SECOND SERVER
side), and get the ALMS BASINS for the ushers. They will come
forward to get the alms basin from you and will give the communion
silver to you.
3) Then RETURN to the FIRST SERVER side and assist the priest
with the communion silver.
4) Hand her the bread, intinction cup, wine and water.
Then after receiving the water back, wash his hands using the lavabo
bowl and towel.
5) Then cross in front of the altar to SECOND SERVER side
again, and get the large alms basin to COLLECT the offering as the
ushers bring it forward.
6) FASTEN THE RAILING, and return to the FIRST SERVER side.
7) Hold the INTINCTION cup during communion, and after
communion UNFASTEN THE RAILING.
8) At the end of the service, you DO NOT WALK OUT - but stay
and extinguish the candles.

Hints
The 7:30 acolyte acts as
first and second server.
Remember to BOW each time
you pass in front of the altar. Be dignified.
Dress in COOL clothing and
DARK shoes.
Never be afraid to ASK
QUESTIONS. The people who know the most are the ones who ASK.
